SWACO "Bring Me Back" Campaign

September 30, 2016

Did you know that plastic bags are 100% recyclable, but are often disposed of improperly? The Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio (SWACO) is addressing the problem by launching a “Bring Me Back” campaign that encourages residents to return plastic bags to local retailers.  The locations will have collection bins for clean plastic bags, including grocery bags, produce bags, newspaper bags, cereal box liners, food storage bags, and plastic wrap from paper towel, toilet paper, and bottled water packaging. SWACO is also encouraging shoppers to use reusable canvas or cloth bags, which have the lifespan of over 700 plastic bags, or to reuse their plastic bags at home.

Plastic bags are NOT recyclable on Ohio State’s campus, and interfere with the recycling process at the facility if disposed of improperly. Kroger, Giant Eagle, and Target near campus provide recycling collection bins and are easily accessible by COTA.

More information about the “Bring me Back” campaign and participating retailers is available at SWACO’s interactive map and information fact sheet.
