About the Green Buckeyes Program
What is the Green Buckeyes Leadership Program?
The Green Buckeyes Leadership Program, or the Green Buckeyes, is a program within the Student Wellness Center in the Office of Student Life at Ohio State. The Green Buckeyes are students who wish to be engaged in the natural environment at Ohio State. We practice environmental wellness by interacting with the natural environment, serving Ohio State through a variety of programs to preserve our natural environment for generations to come. Any Ohio State student can be involved as a Green Buckeye, because everyone has a shared responsibility to take care of our campus and community.
Our Mission
To educate Ohio State students and staff to help them make responsible, sustainable choices to meet the short- and long-term needs of our community, both within and outside of OSU. To provide recommendations for building systems, waste removal, and other functions to support energy conservation and sustainability, and to measure success of efforts both quantitatively and qualitatively.
Who are our Green Buckeyes Leaders?
Green Buckeyes Leaders are student staff who work in the Student Wellness Center to devevlop and implement programs for Ohio State students and to coordinate volunteers through planning events, registering, training and scheduling their peers to assist with different projects. Our Leaders also spend a great deal of their time educating other Ohio State students by conducting programs and one-one-one conversations through tabling and other events. Our Leaders are from all majors and all class ranks and require a demonstrated passion for sustainability through coursework and other involvement. Check out our staff page for current Green Buckeyes Leaders.
Who are our Green Buckeyes Volunteers?
Our Green Buckeyes Volunteers are Ohio State students who educate other Buckeys by donating their time and skills to teach other Ohio State students on how to live a more sustainable life and to engage in environmental wellness. Our volunteers help through regular volunteer efforts like signing up students to participate in our compost programs on campus and through what we call "talking trash"--teaching students as they are throwing away their trash what items are recyclable or compostable, or what needs to go to the landfill. Additionally, our volunteers help wtih service-day projects including trash pickup, planting campus gardens, and other events on campus and in the community. Our volunteer opportunities are open to any Ohio State student, including undergraduates, graduate and professional students.
